Set in the 1940s, CALIFORNIA OR DUST is the story of eleven-year-old Meadowlark (Lark) Jensen whose family has left the Oklahoma Dust Bowl to make a new life in big, bright, beautiful California. Unfortunately, the reception they receive is decidedly less than sunny. In fact, it’s downright hostile. Lark holds out hope that things will get better when she can finally go to school. But school turns out to be the biggest disappointment of all. But then something happens that changes everything. Coming in Spring of 2026.
