Inspiration

The idea for the book came from a detour I took many years ago. As I drove along the small, rural highway, I spied some crumbling red brick buildings. I discovered the once-majestic buildings were once part of the J. N. Adam Memorial Hospital, a sanatorium for people suffering from tuberculosis. I couldn’t stop thinking about the stories and lives of the patients who had once resided there. My middle grade novel grew out of this glimpse of the past. Below are some vintage pictures of the sanatorium.
